Expedition RR2509 sails for Chain transform fault
The R/V Revelle set sail today for Chain transform fault in the equatorial Atlantic ocean, as part of an NSF-funded project to study the dynamic behavior of a slow-slipping oceanic transform system. Prof. Jessica Warren is chief scientist of the expedition, which will collect samples by rock dredging and survey the fault using the autonomous underwater vehicle Sentry. Two expeditions over the past year on the R/V Langseth have already collected multi-channel seismic and ocean bottom seismometer datasets along the Chain transform fault.
