Suzanne Birner’s latest paper on peridotite oxygen fugacity is published
Former lab member Suzanne Birner has published an open access paper titled “Melt addition to mid-ocean ridge peridotites increases spinel Cr# with no significant effect on recorded oxygen fugacity“. In this paper, we report geochemical data, petrographic observations, and oxygen fugacity estimates for Southwest Indian Ridge peridotites. We show that low to moderate degrees of melting beneath the ridge axis do not affect peridotite oxygen fugacity. We find that addition of melt to ridge peridotite elevates spinel Cr# via the formation of plagioclase, but does not significantly affect peridotite oxygen fugacity.
